My Brain

New Season New Goals

2011 was … well it was fun and hard. It was the first year I shot with Birch and the first time I shoot in November, needless to say it was a great and challenging year.

I did learn a few things in 2011. I learned that wedding can be tremendous fun but some days you can just run into technical glitches one after another! (Photo booth i am thinking about you) Overall 2011 let me grow into my own as a wedding photographer. Weddings are so different than editorials, there are no team to organize, no model to direct and no giant lights to lug (I am ok with that). I love shooting fashion and doing only portrait, but I also like weddings. Somehow in all the things that  goes on, there are moments that are unscripted. That causal glance, the smile on the brides face, the silents in between. Somehow all of it is very human, and I guess that is the best part about weddings that I attracts me the most. All teh great couples that I have met so far just share their emotions with their guests, it is all so pure and honest.

I can’t forget Chelsea and Shay that gives me so many opportunity to work with you guys 🙂 Sometime I think it is strange that I like to be the second shooter, there is something different about the approach that you can take as a second gun. I think there is something like street photography when I am shooting as the second shooter, maybe I just have been reading too much street photography books.

I think 2011 was great so I picked some of my favorites:

So 2012? Well I want to shoot more and shoot tighter! I have loved natural lights for the majority of 2011, may be it is time to mix in some studio style run and gun again 🙂 I also really want to reach deeper and put more emotion into each shoot, it will be hard, but I think it will be totally worth it! Not to mention all the great people that I will meet on the way.

I guess that is one thing that I really love about photography, it always leaves me wanting more.
